Boomkat Product Review:
On a properly febrile, kaleidoscopic new album, Metal Preyers transmute an impressionistic, cartoonish carousel of bass detonation and high register Bruxaria resembling the fierce street rave of São Paolo & Belo Horizonte with visceral, lysergic results - think DJ K clashing with Roc/EVOL during an all night lock-in at Bryn Jones’ studio.

Retox Man is a 12-track acid-laced carousel where mutant rhythm science, occult cut-ups and their trademark sound design collide. First sketched in 2022, in the afterglow of Nyege Nyege’s inaugural visit to Brazil, the record channels the energy of São Paulo and Belo Horizonte’s outsider club undercurrents without tracing them directly.

Rather than draw from baile funk, Retox Man refracts those impressions into something all its own: a kaleidoscopic distortion that detaches the ear from any fixed geography. Tropical and colourful, it’s part horror soundtrack, part psychedelic travelogue, part possession ritual - a prime example of NNT's ongoing mission to detonate borders between traditional, popular and experimental musics, and a reminder that Metal Preyers remain among the label’s most unpredictable operators.
